Here are proverbs that will help you recognize wisdom and good advice, and understand sayings with deep meaning. They can teach you how to live intelligently and how to be honest, just, and fair.
MY MUSINGS-Scriptures
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living. (2 Timothy 3:16)
I praise you, O Lord; teach me your ways. (Psalm 119:12)
How good you are—how kind! Teach me your commands. (Psalm 119:68)
Bless me with your presence and teach me your laws. (Psalm 119:135)
Holy Word, teach me how to live!
If you listen to me, you will know what is right, just, and fair.
You will know what you should do.
You will become wise, and your knowledge will give you pleasure.
MY MUSINGS-Scriptures
It is the Lord who gives wisdom; from him come knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6). Those who have reverence for the Lord will learn from him the path they should follow. (Psalm 25:12). You will show me the path that leads to life; your presence fills me with joy and brings me pleasure forever (Psalm 16:11). Praise the Lord! Happy is the person who honors the Lord, who takes pleasure in obeying his commands (Psalm 112:1).
Wisdom offers you long life, as well as wealth and honor.
Wisdom can make your life pleasant and lead you safely through it.
Those who become wise are happy; wisdom will give them life.
Be careful how you think;
your life is shaped by your thoughts.
My child, pay attention and listen to my wisdom and insight.
Then you will know how to behave properly, and your words will show that you have knowledge.
MY MUSINGS-
I love the Word. Jesus is the Word. When we hear the Word, when we believe the Word, when we follow the Word, our lives will be better.
Let the Word lead you as He is our Shepherd. Pay attention and follow His guidance for:
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in fields of green grass
and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.
He gives me new strength.
He guides me in the right paths,
as he has promised.
Even if I go through the deepest darkness,
I will not be afraid, Lord,
for you are with me.
Your shepherd's rod and staff protect me.
You prepare a banquet for me,
where all my enemies can see me;
you welcome me as an honored guest
and fill my cup to the brim.
I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life;
and your house will be my home as long as I live.
(Psalm 23)
“I'll just take a short nap,” he says; “I'll fold my hands and rest a while.”
But while he sleeps, poverty will attack him like an armed robber.
MY MUSINGS-
“Wake up, sleeper, and rise from death, and Christ will shine on you. So be careful how you live. Don't live like ignorant people, but like wise people. Make good use of every opportunity you have, because these are evil days. Don't be fools, then, but try to find out what the Lord wants you to do. (Ephesians 5:14-17)
Do not sleep on what God calls you to do.
Do not miss the opportunity to be blessed,
Live out the plans He has set before you.
With inaction and procrastination, you lose prosperity and hope.
Although your eyes have received rest,
your hands are empty and your heart is broke.
My child, remember what I say and never forget what I tell you to do.
Do what I say, and you will live.
Be as careful to follow my teaching as you are to protect your eyes.
I love those who love me;
whoever looks for me can find me.
“Come in, ignorant people!” To the foolish she says,
“Stolen water is sweeter. Stolen bread tastes better.”
Her victims do not know that the people die who go to her house,
that those who have already entered are now deep in the world of the dead.
The righteous have enough to eat, but the wicked are always hungry.
MY MUSINGS-Scripture
“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “Those who come to me will never be hungry; those who believe in me will never be thirsty."
Someone who respects and obeys the Lord knows that he will be safe.
His family also will be in a safe place.
If you respect and obey the Lord,
that is like a spring of water that gives you life.
It will keep you safe from death's traps.
The Lord sees what happens everywhere; he is watching us, whether we do good or evil.
Not even the world of the dead can keep the Lord from knowing what is there; how then can we hide our thoughts from God?
The Lord hates evil thoughts, but he is pleased with friendly words.
We may make our plans, but God has the last word.
Ask the Lord to bless your plans, and you will be successful in carrying them out.
You may make your plans, but God directs your actions.
Better to eat a dry crust of bread with peace of mind than have a banquet in a house full of trouble.
Help your relatives and they will protect you like a strong city wall,
but if you quarrel with them, they will close their doors to you.
The slacker does not plow during planting season;
at harvest time he looks, and there is nothing.
Righteous people are sure of themselves;
the wicked have to pretend as best they can.
If you have to choose between a good reputation and great wealth, choose a good reputation.
Truth, wisdom, learning, and good sense—these are worth paying for,
but too valuable for you to sell.
My child, eat honey; it is good. And just as honey from the comb is sweet on your tongue,
you may be sure that wisdom is good for the soul. Get wisdom and you have a bright future.
Reliable friends who do what they say
are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing!
It is foolish to spread a net
where any bird can see it,
but they set an ambush to kill themselves;
they attack their own lives.
MY MUSINGS
We must be careful not to make choices that will lead to harm, to our own lives or to the lives of others. God tells us, "If you respond to my warning, then I will pour out my spirit on you and teach you my words (Proverbs 1:23)". God's words of wisdom give us knowledge of how to live. Wisdom calls out, "how long foolish ones will you love ignorance?" (Proverbs 1:22). For the turning away of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. But whoever listens to me will live securely and be free from the fear of danger (Proverbs 1:32-33). Sadly, "because [the foolish] hated knowledge, [they] didn’t choose to fear the Lord" (Proverbs 1:29). Choosing not to fear the Lord leads to a life of calamity, terror, and stress (Proverbs 1:27). Not listening to God, and not reading His words, in turn, leads to making poor decisions that ultimately becomes an attack on our own lives.
How then do we protect our lives? The Good News tells us, "Trust in the Lord and do what is good; dwell in the land and live securely. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act, making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday" (Psalm 37:3-6). Then, as the evening wanes, we can happily say to the Lord, "You have put more joy in my heart. I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety" (Psalm 4:7-8).
So learn from God. Then you will understand what is right, true and fair. You will know the best way to live.
You will become wise in your thoughts. Your knowledge of what is right will make you happy.
Whatever you are doing,
remember that the Lord is with you.
Then he will show you the right way to go.
